DeskClip - Guide

Organize and instantly access your text snippets, file resources, and clipboard history from one place.


Getting Started

  1. Launch DeskClip — the main window opens with the Text Templates tab active
  2. Click New Category to create a folder for organizing your snippets
  3. Click New Template to create your first text snippet
  4. Use Ctrl + Cmd + V anytime to open the DeskClip paste menu

Tabs

Text Templates

  • Store frequently used text snippets organized in folder categories
  • Each template is saved as a .txt file
  • Double-click to open and edit in a popup window
  • Right-click for copy, rename, duplicate, or delete
  • Drag and drop to move between categories or import from external apps

File Resources

  • Store any file type organized in folder categories
  • Double-click to open with the default application
  • Drag and drop files from Finder to register them
  • Import entire folder structures at once

Clipboard History

DeskClip automatically monitors your clipboard and keeps a history of copied items.

  • Separate text and file histories (up to 500 items each)
  • Clipboard is checked every second
  • Duplicate items are automatically deduplicated
  • Register clipboard items directly as text templates or file resources

Status Icon Menu

Click the DeskClip icon in the menu bar for quick access:

  • Text Templates — hierarchical submenu of all your templates
  • File Resources — hierarchical submenu of all your files
  • Text Clipboards — recent text clipboard items
  • File Clipboards — recent file clipboard items
  • Utilities — date/time generation, text transforms, personal data snippets

Tips

  • Quick paste workflow — Press Ctrl + Cmd + V to browse and paste any template without opening the main window
  • Personal data — Set up email, phone, and address in settings for instant insertion via the Utilities menu
  • Drag and drop — Drag text or files from any app directly into DeskClip to save them

Privacy

  • All data is stored locally on your computer
  • Clipboard monitoring runs only on your device
  • No data is sent to any external server
